And finally back in the land of the living, and ‘love the Mentalist’.
What a godawful summer and autumn. It seemed like every other month we had some nasty virus flatten the whole household for a fortnight ( in turns). Still, It seems my ability to blog has now returned- my brain kind of turned off, a bummer since I have coursework to do now. MS makes recovery from viruses very slow. I’ve just spent three bloody hours clearing the comments backlog om MAB, and I’ve still got another 150 to go…
I’ve spent the sick time slumped in front of the TV watching ’the Mentalist’ episodes (series one) and I’ve come to the conclusion that Red John is the Attorney General after watching the episodes ‘Red John’s friends’ half a dozen times (I’ve got a crush on Jane, don’t judge me). My reasoning being- who the hell else would have put the wind up Renfrew (from a rich and powerful family) so much he’d skip town? He’d know where the cops were taking him. Also, RJ has got into the DOJ database one time too many, and he found out where Renfrew was hiding in Mexico way too quickly, someone at the CBI had to have told him, which means following the chain of command upwards. Add to that he does get mentioned very often in the show (like Red John) and I’m sold on the AG.
Bugs me that the bulk of the viewing public don’t seem to spot that he’s a borderline sociopath. I do pick on the nice hints from the writers that he’s a lot like Red John in some ways (the teacup in the last episode was quite an obvious one). And hints of the slowly brewing finale in some future episode where he tasers Lisbon, and uses a hypnotically controlled Rigsby to keep the others out of the interrogation room while he slices up RJ with whatever blade he hid in the office ‘just in case’. Followed by him calmly sauntering out of jail a couple of days later never to be seen again (set up in the second series). I’m just itching to get my hands on the second series… Grrr.
Bugger it, the MAB comments can wait another day.
